Seriously??? I don't need a cast anymore?!

Went to the doctor today to get my non weight bearing cast off and was ready to have the walking cast put on. The doctor came in and said it looks great and he was putting me straight into a boot for 5 weeks. Wow, I wasn't expecting that! I got the boot and started to walk and QUICKLY found out that I couldn't do it. The guy who gave me the boot thought it was funny that I even tried. He said he didn't tell me I could walk right then. He said since I wasn't used to walking and there would be pain involved until I got my "sea legs", he said I needed to use crutches (why didn't he start the conversation with that?)So, Tom had to go out to the car to get the crutches and I walked out of the building with the biggest smile on my face. What a great day. Thank you Jesus for this!

The team from Maryland should be in the air heading to Honduras. It does make me sad that I won't be able to join them. They have become part of my family and I miss them all.

I am thankful that I have this extra time to spend with my family.

Seriously, why do I faint every time I feel pain?

Just got back from the Doctor's office. I got the stitches out of the 3 inch incision and the guy tells me he is putting a non weight bearing cast on me (MAJOR bummer). Tom told him Santa wasn't going to be kind to him this year because of it. The guy says that Santa doesn't even know his name anymore. Then, He says besides, there is no Santa. The only one that is real is Jesus. Good answer! I told him he moved back up on Santa's list. Then, he bends my foot into a 90 degree angle and I promptly start to faint The pain was really bad. It was not something I was prepared to feel. So, I get to lay down with my legs hanging off the end of the table, with Tom running around trying to find a wet paper towel and something for me to throw up in. The wet towel helped a lot and in the end I didn't need the thing he found to throw up in (yea for the small victories). I now am sporting a purple cast. I get to wear this for 3 weeks and then I will be put into a weight bearing cast for 3 weeks and then a boot and the start of therapy. If moving my foot now is any indication of how the therapy is going to feel, Tom had better have an ice cold wet washcloth waiting at each appointment.

Then it was home to take drugs and get Tom stated on the honey-do list; laundry, change sheets, grocery list, vacuuming, cleaning toilets, bank, etc etc etc. Hmmmmm, maybe the pain is worth the pampering.

Seriously, I got to have surgery???!!!

yep.  That is the official word from the Doctor this morning. He said I definitely torn my tendon and it must be surgically fixed; but then, I knew that already from how it has been feeling. My doctor said he was feeling really guilty about having to tell me that because he says he doesn't want some village to suffer because I'm not going to get back to Honduras at the end of December. So, surgery is scheduled for December 1st.  If all goes well, I will be 3 weeks on crutches, then 3 weeks in a walking cast and then 3 weeks in a removable cast.  That is a WHOLE lot better than the last time I did this. He did say he would be mindful of how he puts it back together and will try to alleviate the recovery time as much as possible.  Course that begs the question, "If I wasn't in a hurry, does that mean he would just slice and stitch without regard to recovery???"

Seriously, how do you create a blog????!!!!

So many people have asked me to start a blog instead of the mass emails I put out when we are in the field, so I thought, why not?  After all, I am a college graduate (although it was over 30 years ago) and I don't think I'm stupid (no comments there please). Soooo, I start searching for a free blog service and found this one.  No problem, I think.  It should be a self guided thing, not too difficult; I can do this. Well, It took me a week to just figure out the title of the blog.  So much for easy. Then, once I finally got the name, I find out I have  to make up a layout.  Now I'm totally stumped. Maybe I should just go back to the email thing...
